Jia-Min is a Woodland resident, where she homeschools her five children and is very active playing the piano/keys for her church. Her classical piano training began at the age of seven. She completed and passed Level eight of the Certificate of Merit exams, part of MTACs program for students. Her musical experience includes choir, jazz band, concert band, marching band, and being selected to play the piano in the State Honor Band. She began teaching piano to young children at the age of 16. During college, she took a small hiatus from music and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Psychology, with a minor in Human Development. In the last twelve years, she has gotten married, had five children, gained experience in directing children, musicals, taught piano from a new perspective, honed in on her teaching skills through being a paraeducator and Sunday School Teacher, and re-sharpened her skills through being an accompanist at the Davis Music Theatre Company. Currently, she can be seen playing in the band at church and learning a completely different style of playing. She is also excited to be teaching again and has become a member of MINA, or Music Teachers National Association. Jia-Min teaches classical piano to all ages, all personality types, of all levels, and focuses on a balance between technique, theory, reading music, ear training, memorization and creativity. Whether to enhance a childs musical experience, or take a child through competitions and a lifelong career in performance, Jia-Min is excited to bring this auditory art to those she has the opportunity to teach.
